Ari Vatanen au Circuit des Remparts 2018 !
Ari Vatanen, champion du monde des Rallyes 1981, champion du monde des Rallyes-Raids 1997, sera l’Invité d’Honneur du Circuit des Remparts 2018.
Le pilote finlandais a accepté d’accompagner tous les événements de la manifestation : il participera samedi 15 septembre au Rallye International au volant d’une BMW historique puis présidera le jury du Concours d’État. Dimanche 16, ses évolutions au volant d’une BMW de compétition rythmeront les différentes épreuves sur le circuit.

Ari est un pilote hors-norme. Sans parler de ses qualités humaines qui sont à la hauteur de son palmarès… ».
Ari Vatanen n’était jamais venu en terre charentaise : « Voilà des années que j’entends parler du Circuit des Remparts d’Angoulême, mais jamais mon emploi du temps ne m’avait laissé le loisir de faire le déplacement. Il était temps de céder à cette invitation. Je suis très heureux de venir respirer l’automobile ancienne et les courses historiques à Angoulême dans ce qu’elles ont de plus authentique, festif et convivial ! ».
BIOGRAPHIE :
Ari Vatanen, né le 27 avril 1952 à Tuupovaara en Finlande, réside dans le sud de la France.
Champion du monde des Rallyes en 1981 (Ford Escort, copilote David Richards), il a disputé 101 épreuves mondiales, remporté 527 spéciales, est monté 27 fois sur le podium dont 10 fois sur la plus haute marche, au fil d’une carrière exceptionnellement longue (1974 à 2003). Il a également remporté quatre fois le Paris-Dakar : trois fois avec Peugeot (1987, 1989, 1990) et une fois avec Citroën (1991).
Sur un autre terrain, l’un de ses exploits les plus spectaculaires reste sa victoire (et le record de l’ascension) en 1988 lors de la course de côte de Pikes Peak aux États-Unis au volant de la Peugeot 405 T16. Une performance passée à la postérité cinématographique grâce au film Climb Dance réalisé par Jean-Louis Mourey.

Ari Vatanen at Circuit des Remparts 2018!
Ari Vatanen, 1981 World Rally Champion and 1997 World Rally-Raid Champion, will be the Guest of Honor at Circuit des Remparts 2018.
The Finnish driver has agreed to accompany all of the event’s events: on Saturday September 15, he’ll take part in the International Rally at the wheel of a historic BMW, then chair the State Competition jury.
On Sunday 16, his evolutions at the wheel of a competition BMW will punctuate the various events on the circuit.

Not to mention his human qualities, which are as good as his record of achievements…”.
Ari Vatanen had never been to the Charente region before: “I’ve been hearing about the Circuit des Remparts d’Angoulême for years, but my schedule had never allowed me to make the trip. It was time to accept this invitation. I’m very happy to be able to come and breathe in vintage motoring and historic racing in Angoulême at its most authentic, festive and convivial!”.
